Among the list of those awarded the Medal of the Order of the British Empire in the Birthday Honours list for meritorious services appears the following:- No. 7681089 Sergeant (temporary Squadron Sergeant-Major) Wilfred Stanley Harman, Military Mounted Police. Mr Harman who has just returned from China, after over 3 1/2 years in Shanghai, is a Gloucester man, and is at present living with his parents, who recently celebrated their golden wedding, at 112, Alfred Street. He has just retired after 21 years in the Army, and has seen service in many foreign countries. He went to Shanghai just after the disturbances in 1928 and was in that city during the recent fighting. MR HARMAN'S CAREER. Mr Harman was awarded the decoration for a distinguished military career and for his services during the recent fighting in Shanghai. he enlisted in the Hussars in April 1911, when he was 18 years of age. He served for four years and then jointed the Military Mounted Police from which, after 17 years he retired, and is now home on pension. During the Great War Mr Harman was mentioned in despatches by Field Marshal Haig, in 1917, and he was awarded the Victory Medal. After 18 years service he received the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. He served 3 years in India, one year in Germany, four and a half years in France, three and a half in China.
