| Citation: | Captain (temporary) Frank William Johnson (248566) General List, (Castleford).Citation: HQ No 2 District, ItalyDuring the period November 1944 to May 1945, Capt F W Johnson was detached from his normal staff duties as DAPM (SIB) Provost Branch, at HQ No 2 District to investigate pilferages of WD stores in transit on the railways in southern Italy. These investigations were carried out single handed by Capt Johnson in Naples, Salerno, Rome areas, and forwarded to the then Army Railhead at Arezzo, and required great tact, patience and perseverance on the part of Capt Johnson under arduous conditions of weather during the winter, coupled with extreme discomfort in travelling the railways in supply trains to produce the constructive results he achieved. His investigations have resulted in a considerable tightening up of the security procedure for WD stores in transit, breaking up and arrest of a number of train thieves in organized gangs, and the formation of a special railway police investigation section.Recommended for MBE by N M Blair Lt Col DPM HW 2 District and E P Nares Maj Gen Commanding No2 District. |
