Decoration Record:
Decoration: British Empire Medal (London Gazette: 39243 Page: 3087 June 7, 1951)
Citation: United Kingdom. Citation for BEM: CQMS Stewart joined this unit on 3rd May 1948 and has been unfailing in his attendance both at Camps and normal bi-weekly drills since this date. This unit does not carry a regular CQMS on the staff and therefore the Administration from the "Q" point of view would be extremely difficult if I was not fortunate in having the services of CQMS Stewart at my disposal. He puts in long hours in excess of normal drills in order to keep abreast of the growing volume of work in his department caused by a steady increase of volunteers over the years and a proportionate greater increase of late months due to the arrival of National Service Men. At the Annual and Week-end Camps he has attended (and he has never missed one yet) I can count on his deparment functioning perfectly. The "Q" side of any unit is perhaps the least glamourous and provided much routine work of an uninteresting nature but unless this be done satisfactorily and indeed with enthusiasm the unit will never be an efficient one. CQMS Stewart is utterly reialble and his keeness is a byword in the unit. I therefore have much pleasure in recommending him for the award of the BEM and trust that most urgent and sympathetic consideration be given to this recommendation.Maj RAW Whitby OC 56 Armd Div Pro Coy.
