The under mentioned extract from Alexandria District Orders No 300 dated 1st Oct 1916, issued by Brig Gen R C Boyle CB Comdg Troops Alexandria District (Egypt), is published in accordance with Para 1919 (XII) KR.The GOC Alexandria District has pleasure in recording his appreciation of the gallant conduct of P/2461 L/Cpl E Hulley MMP under the following circumstance: At Chatby Alexandria on the 29th Sept 1916 P/2461 L/Cpl E Hulley MMP swam out to sea to a man in difficulties and succeeded and assisted in successfully bringing him safely to shore. Owing to the heavy swell at the time the man would probably have been drowned but for the action of the above mentioned NCO and several others.The GOC Alexandria District directs that the above be recorded as laid down in para 1919 (XIV) Kings Regulations in the regimental conduct sheets of the NCO's and men concerned.
