Citation: Acts of Courage Extracted From Corps Order Books.P/11089 LANCE CORPORAL H J LEWISMILITARY FOOT POLICE 3rd ARMYExtract from 3 Army Routine Orders dated 16th June 1918 No. 1654 Act of Courage. The Army Commander wishes to express his appreciation of the following Act of Courage;-About 3.15pm on the 7th June 1918, No. P/11098 L/Cpl Lewis H J, MFP, was on duty in the Rue Du General Tripier, Hesdin, when a GS wagon drawn by two horses came down the street at a gallop. The horses had bolted from the railway station and the driver had been thrown out of the wagon. L/Cpl Lewis gallantly hung on to one of the horses, and eventually brought it down, thereby preventing a serious accident. A record of the above will be made in the Regimental Conduct Sheet of L/Cpl Lewis, in accordance with para. 1919 (XIV) of King's Regulations. Authority. PM 3 Army No. AJI/1444 dated 20/6/18.
