Act of Courage Extracted from Corps Order Book.P/1419 LANCE CORPORAL R ARMSTRONGMILITARY FOOT POLICECorps Order Book 21 Page 7The following is a certified true extract from Routine Orders of Lieutenant General JJ Asser, CB, Commanding Lines of Communications area, dated 26/12/16 re P/1419 A/Cpl R Armstrong.The General Officer Commanding Lines of Communication area, wishes to express his appreciation of the prompt and plucky conduct of P/1719 Lance Corporal R Armstrong, Military Foot Police, at the Advanced Base, on the 12th December 1916.No138744 Pioneer A Booth and No138718 Pioneer J Parsley, 271 Railway Company RE, slipped over the steep bank and fell into the canal after dark. They were in immediate danger of drowning when their calls attracted the attention of Lance Corporal Armstrong who, divesting himself of only great-coat and revolver, plunged into the canal, and succeeded in saving both men.A record of the above will be made in the Regimental Conduct Sheet of this NCO, in accordance with Para 1919 (XIV) King's Regulations.Signed Charles WoodLt Col AAG.
