Unit War Diary WO 171/7827. 19/2/1944 Ostend docks, explosion on Royal Navy torpedo boats which caught fire, explosion caused a torpedo to be lifted from its housing in one of the torpedo boats on to the quayside and because of the intense heat from the fires it was a serious threat to life and property in the immediate area. It was complete with its war head which was almost red hot. Sgt Norris was seen sitting astride the tail fin and calmly pumping a foam extinguisher on to the war head in an effort to keep it cool.
