Citation: | North West Europe. Citation for MID: Capt Elsmore was a subaltern in the 1 Corps Pro Coy early in 1944 when he was specially selected to command 244 Beach Provost Company. he was responsible for all its final training for the assault, and this he carried out with great success. He led his Coy into the Beaches during the first tide on D Day, and it was largely his efficiency, energy, and example under fire and bombing which enabled them to carry out successfully their difficult and arduous Beach role. In September 1944 he was again specially selected to command 51 (H) Div Pro Coy, and at once earned high praise for his energy and leadership in a series of operations, often working with forward troops and in responsible positions. Finally, in April 1945, he was promoted DAPM 1 Corps, and has done a great deal of independent Provost Staff work with the same success that he achieved previously under operational conditions.DPM 1 Corps District.
