Decoration Record:
Decoration: Member of the British Empire (London Gazette: 37442 Page: 622 Jan. 24, 1946)
Citation: Normandy. Citation for MBE: Capt JONES, OC 73 SIS, landed in FRANCE in Jul 44. Since that date he has commanded his section with conspicuous success. At a time when loss of petrol was becoming a matter for grave anxiety, his efforts were largely directed to the prevention of large scale stealing from depots and particularly from the pipeline. This officer, by his brilliant leadership of his section succeeded in breaking the largest black market gang in FRANCE, thereby not only saving many thousands of pounds worth of goods but also recovering vast quantities of govermnment property which were urgently required. His name is a byword in NORMANDY. In spite of an almost overwhelming amount of work, with his section split over a wide area, never once did Capt JONES show himself unable to assist formation staffs in any new problems, however small. His ready coopertion, his unfaliling cheerfulness, his persistence, and the unassuming manner with which he shouldered the most complex problems, have revealed an officer of great distinction and high merit. His unswerving devotion to duty has been an inspiration to all with whom he came into contact.Brig G S Knight Comd 21 L of C Sub Area. Maj Gen G Surtees Comd HQ L of C. National Archive WO 373/86.
