Anthony Joseph Scotti.Citation: Captain SCOTTIi has served continuously with 5 Canadian Provost Company from January 1943 and throughout his tour of command has performed his duties in a highly satisfactory manner. An energetic and tireless worker, Captain SCOTTI is well forward in actions organising and supervising the control of traffic. Day or night in all kinds of weather, frequently under heavy artillery and mortar fire, this officer constantly visits his traffic posts to ensure a constant flow forward of supporting arms. On the night of 30 August 1944, Captain SCOTTI personally made a detailed reconnaissance of approach routes to the FOGLIA River for the GOTHIC LINE attack. Not content with the information he obtained, he continued across the river and through a heavily mined area until he reached the MONBTECCHIO lateral. As a result of this reconnaissance which was carried out under heavy mortar fire. He formulated a sound traffic plan which contributed greatly to the success of the attack. The attack on CORIANO during the night 12/13 September 1944 followed two main axis of advance. Both of the approaches and lateral road five hundred yards SOUTH of the town were under direct enemy observation. Enemy minefield restricted movement on each road to one way traffic and this necessitated the strictest of traffic discipline and control, particularly in the early phases of the attack. Captain SCOTTI sited two traffic control posts on the lateral road and throughout the attack personally maintained constant communication with the attacking Brigade headquarter and his traffic posts. The outstanding coolness and rescurcefulness under fire displayed by this officer were an inspiration to all and the successful movement forward of supporting arms was due entirely to his planning and foresight. Under the brilliant leadership and organising ability of Captain SCOTTI, the company has reached such a high standard of efficiency that it has earned the esteem and respect of all ranks of the Division.
