Citation: Italy. Citation for award of the CBE: Has held the appointment of PM, HQ AAI (Allied Army Italy), since March 44. He has shown a through grasp of his duties and has set a high standard of energy, alertness, efficiency and courtesy of conduct for his Officers to follow. Over a difficult period, faced with many disciplinary and manpower problems, he has exhibited initiative, resource and powers of organisation. His work in connection with CMP training has been most valuable. The close touch he has maintained with forward formations has allowed sudden operational problems to be met and solved. Under his direction the relations between personnel of the CMP and the Staff and Services, Formations under command, and the US Forces have been excellent.
