Citation: Italy. Citation for MBE: During the breaking of the GOTHIC LINE and subsequent battles this division advanced over most difficult mountainous country. Axes never good, often consisted of narrow one way roads and tracks made almost impassable by incessant rain. Traffic control under such conditions was a major battle winning factor. Major KNEE as APM of the division worked tirelessly, nearly always under the most adverse weather conditions and often under enemy shell fire to ensure the efficient movement and control of traffic which was essential both tactically and administratively. That no opertion failed on this score was primarily due to his untiring efforts. Always cheerful and willing, this officers's unflagging devotion to duty and the outstanding example he has set to those working under him during the whole of the past year have been deserving of the highest praise.Lieut Col O R C Carey AA & QMG 8 Ind Div.
