Citation: Sicily. Citation for MBE: During the period 25 July 43 to 14 Aug. 43 this officer acted as A.P.M. and O.C., 78 Div Provost Coy. During this period the Division was constantly on the move and had to fight their way across two rivers. The nature of the country made the deployment of the Division extraordinarily difficult. Throughout the whole of this period this officer was untiring in his efforts to maintain the flow of essential traffic. On the night 5/6 Aug. 43, during the crossing of the River Salso this officer was constantly under shell fire, and it was largely due to his efforts that troops were got across the river before daylight. Throughout the campaign in Sicily he has shown untiring energy and drive, and has carried out a very difficult task with great success. His example has been an inspiration to all his men.Maj-Gen V Evelegh, GOC 78 Div. Lieut-Gen O W H Leese GOC 30 Corps. National Archive WO373/71pt.2.
