Citation for MBE: Major Jones as APM (Traffic) on the Staff of the DPM at Read HQ Eighth Army in Italy from 3 Sept 43 to 31 Dec 43 and previously throughout the Sicilian campaign has been largely responsible for the co-ordination of the traffic regulations laid down by the Staff and for the successful execution of the smooth move forward of the great volume of the Army's transport throughout completely foreign terrain. His able handling of the limited CMP Traffic Control resources under conditions never before experienced by this Army necessitated much careful thought and hard work on his part. Many difficulties have been overcome chiefly on account of the personal touch Major Jones has maintained with the men throughout, often this necessitated his presence on the roads for long periods from 18 to 20 hours daily, frequently under very trying circumstances. His vigilance has undoubtedly very largely assisted in the maintenance of the forward troops. Major Jones by his enthusiasm and untiring efforts for Provost has made a great contribution towards the successful traffic arrangements so necessary in the move forward of the Eighth Army from Reggio to Ortona.Lt-Col J R Archer Burton DPM Eight Army, Lt-Gen GOC Eighth Army.
