Decoration Record:
Decoration: Member of the British Empire (London Gazette: 36173 Page: 4120 Sept. 16, 1943)
Citation: North Africa. Citation for MBE: This officer who is in charge of the Special Investigations Branch in this theatre has since the initial landing given outstanding work throughout the period under review. This work was by no means confined to the Army only. He has carried out all investigations for the Navy and RAF. Further more he has rendered considerable assistance to U.S. Army on a number of occasions. He has gained the confidence of the French Police without which it would have been impossible to have achieved such good results. There can be no doubt that his work and the way in which he has used his men has made the detection of crime more certain, and as this became known has had a considerable deterrent effect in decreasing such crime. I recommend that this officer receives recognition by an award as shown or such other award as may seem appropriate for his able administration and unstinting work since his arrival in this theatre, which has, I consider, brought benefit to the whole force.Lieut Col M Sykes DPM.
