Citation: New Year honour. 5825132 Sergeant (acting) William Lewis Legg. 4 (Scottish) Port Task Force Pro Coy, Corps of Royal Military Police, TA. 17/1/1956 - 1/6/1959.Citation: Sergeant Legge has been the Permanent Staff Instructor with 4 (Scottish) Port Task Force Provost Company, RMP, (TA) since 17 January 1956. He joined the Company on the completion of his Regular Army engagement of 22 years at a tme when the unit strength of purely volunteer NCO was at a very low ebb. By dint of hard work, perseverance and enthusiasm, Sergeant Legge was very largely responsible for putting the unit back on its feet and for giving it as strong sense of its importance in, first of all, the Beach Brigade and then, in 1957 the Port Task Force. The present volunteer strength of 79% of the unit establishment reflects great credit on his efforts. In the early days of the unit's re-organization and rebuilding, when trained NCOs were few, Sergeant Legge found himself called upon to do every job in the unit, and, at the same time, to teach the TA NCO's to do these jobs themselves. Proof of the high standard that he achieved in this task is given in the grading of "Very Good" that the unit has been given on its Annual Administrative Inspections in the last three years, and in the efficiency with which it carries out its duties. As an Instructor has been excellent: no hours have been too long and no task too arduous and the loyalty he has given has been of the highest order. The Territorial Army as a whole and his present unit in particular owe much to him for what has been no less than his whole-hearted devotion to the interests of the unit, and his unflagging an very successful efforts on its behalf.Recommended by: OC 4 (S) PTF Pro Coy.
