Citation: | Queens Birthday Honour. 24090616 Staff Sergeant (now acting Warrant Officer Class 2) John Salmons, RMP. 101 Pro Coy. RMP. 1 Mar 84 - 6 Oct 84. Exercise Lion Heart.Citation: Staff Sergeant Salmons is the non commissioned officer in charge of the (BR) Com Z detachment of 101 Provost Company RMP, the only in theatre regular RMP on the British Line of Communication. As such he was responsible for the establishment of effective liaison with the Host Nations' (BE, NL) military and civil police, judiciary and law enforcement agencies, the provision of RMP operational support prior to the arrival of reinforcements and, finally the policing of (BR) Comm Z. His work during the exercise planning and preparation stages and throughout LIONHEART operations was outstanding, far above that normally associated with his rank and service. Early in the planning stage, acting on his own initiative, he identified the many Host Nations' police agencies that would be involved in operations. He mad contact with them and sought out their planning officers, invariably much senior to him, and identified himself as the in-theatre RMP point of contact. He provided the Host Nations with the detailed information that they required and kept them informed of planning changes as they occurred. he won their respect and confidence, no small achievement, and made inter-operability and close cooperation between the Host Nations' police and RMP possible. This was crucial to successful operations in (BR) Comm. Z. In the preparation stage S/Sgt Salmons made many constructive suggestions on the organisation of the Convoy Marshalling Area (CMA) and produced the equipment required to operate it. His ideas were accepted and subsequently proved during actual operations which were greatly facilitated because of this SNCO's initiative. He was instrumental in the smooth operation of the CMA, the first important link on the line of communication. Finally, during LIONHEART operations S/Sgt Salmon's detachment successfully police the (BR) Comm Z dealing promptly and effectively with all police incidents in close cooperation with the Host Nations. This was due to his leadership and preparatory work. He also acted at the (BR) Comm Z RMP Operations Warrant Officer, and appointment normally held by a WO I (RSM), assisting the DAPM with the command, control and coordination of a three company group and making a most significant contribution throughout. S/Sgt Salmon's actions prior to and during Exercise LIONHEART were in accordance with the highest traditions of RMP and the results that he produced consistently outstanding in every aspect of his many and varied duties. In view of his rank and service I consider them worthy of official recognition.Recommended by: OC. 101 Pro Coy. Maj. Gen. COS HQ BAOR. Gen. C in C BAOR. |
