Citation: | Queens Birthday Honours. 23856229 Staff Sergeant William Price. RMP. NCO I/C Mounted Detachment, BAOR. April 85 to Oct 85.Citation: SSgt Price had only a few months remaining of his twenty two year engagement when he was selected from 115 Provost Company RMP, where he was a highly regarded platoon commander, to establish and run the RMP Mounted half section at Sennelager. Despite agreement for him to spend his remaining nine moths service in the UK, he readily accepted the challenge knowing that it would delay his departure from BAOR. The task entailed an inordinate amount of additional planning and work, over and above his normal duties, to ensure the half section became operationally viable. he was responsible for the selection of the horses in conjunction with the RAVC, their collection from UK and retraining them to meet police duties commitments throughout 1 (BR) Corps, which demanded considerable knowledge of stable management and riding skill. Throughout the transition period he accomplished his duties, which also entailed the procurement of equipment and suitable stabling, with enthusiasm and dedication beyond that normally expected of a Staff Sergeant. There is no doubt that without his personal effort, zeal and purposeful approach the venture might not have succeeded, nor gained the recognition the section now enjoys; a highly motivated, operationally competent and professional mounted military police detachment. By SSgt Price's unstinting enthusiasm, sheer dedication and personal sacrifice, he was able to handover a formally established and highly activated mounted half section. In addition SSgt Price was also involved in extra mural activities connected with the BAOR equestrian events. he readily gave up his free time to instruct not only service personnel but dependants and children. He greatly helped the pony club at Sennelager on many occasions and the BFG pony club camp. Despite being in his last year of service, after a splendid and varied career with RMP, his diligence and tenacity never wained, in fact it surged to achieve a final goal. There is no doubt that due to his excellent police duty knowledge and superb equestrian skills he as able to create a thriving and highly regarded Royal Military Police Mounted Detachment.Recommended by: Lt.
