Queen praises Staff Sgt Mudd.
Knaresborough hero Andrew Mudd who lost both his legs in an IRA bomb attack last November has impressed the Queen with his bravery.
Staff Sergeant Mudd, 32, last week told the Queen of his determination to overcome his condition and get back to work.
He has one artificial leg and told her he was getting a second fitted.
That's a bit of an adventure said the Queen when she asked about his treatment.
When the Staff Sergeants wife Maggie - who was also injured in the blast at their army barracks in Colchester, Essex - said they were coping, the Queen replied "Yes you can, I think that is what is so wonderful.
The Queen who is the Colonel in Chief of then Royal Military Police was visiting the Training Centre in Chichester, Sussex where she met members of the Corps including Staff Sergeant Mudd. He said afterwards "It was encouraging she realised we can get over these problems and it was nice to speak to her.
And the Staff Sergeant said he was recovering reasonably well and was looking forward to returning to work in a job he has been given with the Military Police in London.
Last month Staff Sergeant Mudd was awarded the British Empire Medal for his courage and leadership whilst serving with the British Diplomatic Protection Team in Beirut 1988-89.
. A trust fund was set up for Staff Sergeant Mudd in Colchester after the bomb attack on his car last November.
Over £23,000 has already been raised with donations from the people of Knaresborough still flooding in.
