Citation: New Years Honours. 24294052 Staff Sergeant Paul Philip Crampton. Drugs Intelligence Team SIB/RMP, BAOR, BFPO 39. May 1986 - May 1987. Citation: In 1985, the British Army of the Rhine formed a Drugs Intelligence Team drawn from members of the Special Investigation Branch, Royal Military Police. This was in response to a substantial rise in the number of drugs cases investigated by the Special Investigation Branch which sadly confirmed that the Services are not insulated from the drugs problem affecting young people in the community at large. The team is dedicated to the Gathering of drugs intelligence by deploying operators who undertake covert surveillance and intelligence gathering operations where the drug sub-culture thrives. Staff Sergeant Crampton Royal Military Police Special Investigation Branch has been a member of this team since May 1986. Although primarily involved in supporting 76 Section SIB covering the areas Bielefeld, Detmold, Minden, Herford and Hameln, Staff Sergeant Crampton's duties have taken him further afield in British Army of the Rhine. Additionally because of his combined Police talents and outstanding teaching abilities, he has also been heavily involved in the instruction of young members of the Royal Military Police and Women's Royal Army Corps Provost who are attached to the Drugs Intelligence Team. Staff Sergeant Crampton has planned and undertaken a number of covert missions where he has operated in the dangerous and violent environment where controlled drugs are abused. Throughout, he has continually been an inspiration to his colleagues; both in the Royal Military Police and German Police, and as a result of his high professional skills, a number of successful arrests have been made to persons involved in the supply and misuse of drugs. he is an NCO who has brought to the recently created Drugs Intelligence Team qualities of energy and boldness that were greatly needed in this new venture to ensure the Armed Services were equipped to tackle the potential of a drugs menace. Staff Sergeant Crampton has worked tirelessly at his task and his handling of the various drugs involvement throughout BAOR has been exemplary. He has succeeded in exerting the greatest possible pressure on offenders but simultaneously maintaining first class relations with units involved. he is thorough, sensible and has an enviable reputation as an investigator, not only with the Drugs Intelligence Team but in the wider field of RMP employment. During March and April this year SSgt Crampton was part of the joint Belgian/British police team who dealt with the aftermath of the Zeebrugge Ferry disaster. His task during this time was to deal with the bodies of victims of the disaster when they were first brought ashore. He spent many days in this distressing and nauseating environment without losing any of his robustness and by his example helped others of the team to deal with the emotional stress involved. Staff Sergeant Crampton's selfless devotion to duty has involved the highest sense of respect and loyalty with his Service and civil police colleagues which in turn has greatly enhanced the reputation and standing of the British Army in Germany. Such conduct in his tour of duty is beyond the call of duty and deserving of official recognition.Recommended by: Lt. Col. CO. SIB. BAOR. Col. PM BAOR. Gen. C in C BAOR.
