Decoration Record:
Decoration: Member of the British Empire (London Gazette: 43343 Page: 4943 June 13, 1964)
Citation: Territorial Army. Major Stanley Arthur William Bush (402418) OC 253 Pro Coy. RMP. TA. (now TARO). 1933 to 1963.Citation: Major Bush first enlisted into the DCLI in 1933 as a Private soldier, serving in India, Egypy, and the United Kingdom. He rose to the rank of Warrant Officer Class II, and in 1941 transferred to the Airborne Forces and became a parachutist and glider pilot. He received an Emergency Commission in 1943 and served in France and Germany. In April 1946 he was demobilised and immediately started working voluntarily for a RA Cadet Unit. In May 1946 he re enlisted as a Gunner, in the newly formed Territorial Army, and was granted a Commission (TA) in April 1948. From that date, he has served continuously with the Territorial Army, rising to his present rank and for the past three years he has commanded 253 GHQ Provost Company RMP/TA, and is due to retire in the near future. Whilst commanding this unit, he has displayed tremendous enthusiasm, drive and powers of leadership, far in excess of normal expectation. The exceptional all found efficiency of this unit, its success in maintaining a good level and standard in recruiting, and the enthusiastic attendances for parades are due entirely to the personal example and leadership of Major Bush. He has on many occasions, voluntarily carried out police duties in support of Regular units, thereby making a valuable contribution to solving present day manpower problems. To summarise, it is considered that his service during the past thirty years, culminating in his enthusiastic work and accomplishments in recent years, fully merit recognition.Recommended by: Lt/Col. APM London District, Maj/Gen. GOC London District. C in C Eastern Command.
