Decoration Record:
Decoration: Order of the British Empire (London Gazette: 43529 Page: 6 Jan. 1, 1965)
Citation: New Year Honour. Lt Col (now Colonel) Warren Philip Ferrier (69121). APM Berlin, RMP. 20Sept 1962 to 30 May 1964,Citation: As APM Berlin for nearly two years, Colonel Ferrier has not only been responsible for all the normal military police duties within Berlin but he has also been in command of what amounts to the British frontier line force which supports West Berlin Police on the Sector and Zonal borders. This has required him to be instantly available day and night to deal with the Russians in connection with any incidents on the borders or Autobahn, since he issues involved are normally such that they cannot be left to subordinates. He carried out these duties with conspicuous devotion, firmness, tact and good judgment and invariably in the most selfless manner. By his insistence on the highest standards and his personal example of what service really means, he has succeeded in raising morale and efficiency of the Royal Military Police in Berlin to the highest level. Colonel Ferrier has taken enormous trouble to ensure that all visitors to Berlin understand what travel on the Autobahn and in East Berlin really involves, and the comparative infrequency of any incidents reflects the success he has achieved in this respect. He has also always made it his business personally to conduct all important visitors and parties from the Defence, War and Staff Colleges, etc. on visits to the Berlin Wall and the wire obstructions erected by the communists on the zonal border. Those concerned have almost invariably testified to the inspiration which he has brought to this task. It is considered that the contribution that this office has made to the standing of the British Garrison in Berlin merits practical recognition and he is strongly recommended accordingly for an award.Recommended by GOC Berlin.
