Citation: New Year Honours. 24075197 Staff Sergeant Alan Philip Major. RMP. Germany. For dedication and hard work with 113 Pro Coy. 1 Sept. 81 - 30 Apr. 83. Company Quartermaster Sergeant.Citation: S/Sgt Major has been employed as CQMS of this unit since 1 Sept 81. During this period he has, with the assistance of only one civilian store-man, been solely responsible for the efficient running of and accounting for the unit's entire equipment stores, including vehicle, technical and special to arm stores, in the most proficient and exemplary manner. he is also required to maintain the barracks, this being the only RMP unit in BAOR with its own barracks, including all Works Services. This involves a close working liaison with the PSA and with the other unit in the barracks. he is fully aware of his many and onerous responsibilities and consistently works excessively long hours, through his own dedication and sense of duty, to ensure the efficient and smooth running of the unit an barracks. In his capacity as HQ Platoon Commander, S/Sgt Major has, by personal leadership and example, whilst under constant pressure, worked tirelessly to ensure the operational effectiveness of his men by sound organization and training, encouraging the driving them to achieve the best possible results under all conditions. In addition to his normal duties, he is frequently tasked, sometimes at short notice, to provide specialist equipment from both civilian and Service sources for Close Protection operations and to take part in these operations in his capacity as a trained body guard. This has increased still further the workload on him and entails close and personal liaison with various outside police agencies. He carries out all these extra commitments with the same cheerful, uncomplaining efficiency which he applies to everything he does. In his off duty time, he assists the local Youth and Driving Clubs by providing them with equipment and coordinating the production of other resources. He plays a leading part in organizing and running the various wife's Club activities and is to the forefront in unit Anglo-German relations. he devoted a great deal of his own time and effort to refurbishing the Corporal's Mess and produced most of the materials and fittings used. He is always ready and willing to give guidance and assistance for unit functions and plays a full part in all aspects of the units' life when he could easily and justifiably have pleaded pressure of work as an exemption. S/Sgt Major invariably puts the interests of his work before all others. His selfless devotion to duty and the welfare of others is in the highest traditions of the Corps of Royal Military Police and is highly deserving of public recognition.Recommended by: Maj.
