Corporal B G Payne of the Corps of Military Police who was a Leicestershire constable at Hinckley before the war, has written to his parents t Burton-on-Trent describing a devil of a journey on a hospital train in France. "For five days we were up and down the coast trying to get a boat" he says. " The hospital I was in in Belgium was bombed and so they moved me from there to another Belgian hospital and then the English medical corps found me and I was transferred to the English hospital and then to England." Payne has a wound in the thigh and a fracture. |
