Citation: TA. 487722 Major Raymond John Harold Edward Prior. OC 253 Pro Coy, RMP (V). 1964 to date.Citation: Major PRIOR has been serving in uniform continually since 1948 until the present day, firstly as a cadet, then as a Regular Soldier for nine years and subsequently as a TA officer and OC of 253 Pro Coy RMP (V). Throughout these years Major Prior has shown enormous enthusiasm for military life and great dedication to his work as a soldier. Since 2964 Major Prior has been serving in 253 Provost Company RMP and has proved to be one of the most popular members of the unit in every rank that he has held. He was Commissioned in 1969 and has been officer Commanding for the past three years. In spite of moving to Eastbourne where he has a responsible and time consuming job in local government, Major Prior hardly ever fails to turn up for a drill night or a training weekend, and often attends the Southampton Detachment training in addition to his normal Company duties at the Headquarters in Brixton. Throughout his tour in command, Major Prior has paid meticulous attention to demanding the highest standards from his men; that these standards have been achieved is in no doubt after his recent performance on Exercise Crusader 80 where his company earned the very highest praise from everyone from the C-in-C to the local farmers. His considerable dedication and loyalty to the Corps and to the Service far exceeds that which is required an it is considered that this outstanding contribution to the Service should be recognized with an appropriate award.Recommended by Lt/Col, APM, East. Maj/Gen. GOC, London District. Gen. C in C, UKLF.
