Decoration: | Member of the British Empire (London Gazette: 47102 Page: 6 Dec. 31, 1976) |
Citation: | New Year Honours. 23496953 Warrant Officer I Roger Middleton-Jones, RMP. 14 Detachment SIB RMP BAOR. August 1974 to May 1976.Citation: 14 Det SIB has always been commanded by a commissioned officer, but for nearly two years not WO I Middleton-Jones has commanded it with exceptional dedication and flair. As part of the Allied occupation forces in Berlin, British servicemen and their families are not subject to the jurisdiction of the West Berlin civil courts, nor do the West Berlin Police investigate any cases involving British subjects. This is done entirely by the RMP and by 14 Det SIB. Although undermanned, 14 Det SIB has had quite remarkable success in their skillful investigation of crimes, accidents and deaths. Much of this success is due to WO I Middleton-Jones's extremely hard work over a very long period, for his talented control of his small team, and by much skillful and patient inquiry. Commanding Officers of the many units in this large Garrison are full of praise for Mr Middleton-Jones's helpful and understanding approach and methods. The efficient handling of 300 cases over the last 18 months is full proof of the enormous work load involved. Of these 51 were of a very serious nature and ranged from murder, suicide, arson, drug offences, rape, robbery, loss of arms, fraud, wounding to accidental deaths, to mention only a few. The variety of the cases was enormous, and the problems of investigating them and giving advice required a dedicated and able man. We were fortunate to have WO I Middleton-Jones who conducted every investigation with commendable skill, thoughtfulness for those involved and yet with dedicated single mindedness. Few senior NCO's have worked harder, yet with such considerable success as he. In addition he has established himself as a very fine warrant officer who still finds time to play a full part in Brigade and Garrison Affairs. For his skill, hard work, but in particular for his many successes WO I Middleton-Jones deserves very special recognition.Recommended by: Brig. Commanding Berlin Infantry Brigade. RMF Redgrave ? Berlin. Gen. C in C BAOR |
