2nd Witness: No. 6972 L/Cpl E Elliott, MFP states: At Liverpool on the 8th March 1918 I was on duty at Lime Street Railway Station, at about 11.40 pm I saw the accused whom I identify the attempting to travel by train to Newport on a fraudulent warrant, on questioning the accused he said that the warrant was not his but had been given to him by a soldier in the YMCA. I arrested the accused for attempting to travel on a fraudulent warrant, on the way to Dale Street Bridewell, the accused said to me "I have my warrant for Limerick and showed it to me. I then asked him why he attempted to travel on the warrant for Newport and he said "because I want to see my parents before I go the Limerick or words to that effect. I took him to the main Bridewell and he was detained. Signed E Elliott, L/Cpl. the accused declined to cross examine this witness.
