Decoration Record:
Decoration: British Empire Medal (London Gazette: 45384 Page: 5980 June 12, 1971)
Citation: Queens Birthday Honours. 22717819 Staff Sergeant Roderick Lodge, SIB, BAOR, RMP. 16 October 1968 to now.Citation: A member of the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police for the past seventeen years Staff Sergeant Lodge has a fine record of hard and successful work in the field of criminal investigation but this recommendation concerns the last 27 month during which time he was employed as Quartermaster in the Special Investigation Branch RMP BAOR. Because the administrative cell in this unit is very small the quartermaster's responsibilities are considerable, extending beyond provisioning and accounting for MT and stores to administrative backing for special jobs including close security duties with visiting royalty (19 visits in the past two years), and for special teams raised for particularly serious or difficult enquiries, for purchases from three different funds and all travel by unit personnel. This last task is very important, for investigators frequently have to be moved long distances at short notice. Although SIB BAOR is widely deployed to twelve locations in the Federal Republic of Germany, Berlin and Belgium, by hard work and giving up much of his own time staff Sergeant Lodge has improved the efficiency of his unit in these fields to a degree which has drawn favourable comment from numerous inspecting officers, and he has also played a large part in the development of new equipment for the SIB role which is now being taken into use. Particularly noteworthy however, in a period when one member of the unit was killed in a riding accident leaving a young family of four and other unit families were his by serious illness of misfortune, is the Christian spirit and hard, successful work which Staff Sergeant Lodge put into alleviating distress and providing practical assistance. Whilst only the recipients themselves know the full extent of this assistance, the high morale of the unit at the end of a difficult period owes much to his unremitting effort on and off duty. Staff Sergeant Lodge leaves BAOR in March 1971 on posting the the United Kingdom. He completes 23 years service with the colours in September 1975.Recommended by APM & CO SIB RMP BAOR. Brig. Dusseldord, Maj/Gen Rheindhalen, Gen. C in C BAOR, Rheindahalen.
