Citation: | Queens Birthday Honours. 19028908 Warrant Officer Class I Thomas Gordon Jones, SIB/RMP HQ BAOR. 14 March 1968 to now.Citation: WO 1 Jones joined RMP at the age of 18 in 1946, converting to a regular engagement two years later, and when he leaves the army in October 1917 he will have 25 years unbroken service. Promoted to acting sergeant at the age of 21 he quickly showed qualities of leadership and in addition to service with a special mobile provost section and with Jewish internment camps in Cyprus he commanded a Brigade Provost Section in Greece during the emergency, a RMP Dog Company section in Tripoli, and provost sections in Brecon, Shrewsbury, Castle Martin and Warwick before transferring to the Special Investigation Branch in 1954. Since that time he has led SIB Detachments in East Africa, Osnabruck, Famagusta, Benghasi, Edinburgh and UNFICYP). His work in all these posts was of a particularly high standard and at the end of his tour with UNFICYP the force Provost Marshal drew attention to his especially valuable contribution to the work of the Force in a special message to Provost Marshal (Army). WO I Jones took up his present post in March 1968. Having an important and busy role Dortmund Detachment is one of seven out of eleven Special Investigation Branch BAOR detachments normally commanded by a commissioned officer, but due to a shortage of trained SIB officers Warrant Officer Jones has commanded this sub unit for virtually all of the period indicated. Notwithstanding that to meet further increased commitments this SIB detachment has also been reinforced in that time to become the third biggest in BAOR and many of the cases investigated under his direction in this period were of a serious nature, Warrant Officer Jones' tour in his present appointment has been outstandingly successful. Although on call 24 hours a day his enthusiasm has never flagged and the energy he devotes to the training and welfare of his juniors is reflected in their efficiency and high morale. His tact and close liaison with German police and other authorities has helped greatly to maintain the good reputation of troops stationed in a thickly populate area and the close co-operation he has achieved with civil investigation agencies has proved especially valuable on numerous occasions, in particular during the last six months during a period of reorganisation. The effort he has put into all aspects of his work in this time has been far beyond the normal call of duty. His mature sense of judgement and concern for the individual have earned him the fullest trust and respect of the Headquarters and Commanding Officers in the area his detachment served, and have much enhanced the reputation of his Corps. Warrant Officer Jones who has held his present rank since April 1966 leaves BAOR in March 1971, to served the last six months of his colour service in the United Kingdom.Recommended by: Lt/Col. APM SIB BAOR. Brig, Commander Dortmund Garrison, Maj/Gen HQ Rheindahlen Garrison, Gen. C in C BAOR. |
