Decoration Record:
Decoration: Member of the British Empire (London Gazette: 44210 Page: 7 Jan. 1, 1966)
Citation: New Year Honour. 2353852 Capt. Stanley William Carrier, RMP/SIB Southern Area. 1 June 1963 to date.Citation: Captain Carrier joined the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police from the Metropolitan Police in 1943. He was commissioned from the ranks in 1945. From 1945 until 1949 Captain Carrier served in Belgium and Germany. During the Berlin airlift he was the Officer in Charge of the Special Investigation Branch in Berlin and was highly commended for his work. He later moved to the Canal Zone in Egypt and from there to Malaya. Whilst in Malaya during the emergency he was in charge of the Central Area Special Investigation Branch. in 1960 he moved to HQ 1 (BR) Corps as Staff Captain (SIB) to the Assistant Provost Marshal. In May 1963 Captain Carrier took over command of the Southern Area Special Investigation Branch in the United Kingdom. The area covers the whole of Southern Command and involves him in the majority of the investigations carried out in the United Kingdom. He has shown outstanding abilities and his devotion to duty has been far in excess of the requisite qualities of his rank. On many occasions he has assumed responsibility of a higher rank than his own. Captain Carrier's duties have meant his interviewing may senior officers. His tact and manner of carrying out this duty have been such that many commendations have been received from both military and civil authorities. Although the Special Investigation Branch has frequently been under strength Captain Carrier's leadership and personality have resulted in first class performances by his warrant officers and non-commissioned officers. His liaison with the Civil Police authorities is excellent, greatly assisting the good relationship which exists between Civil and Military authorities in this Command. Captain Carrier's enthusiasm and devotion to duty have never varied in spite of the fact that his type of commission has held out little hope of promotion.Recommended by: Lt. Col. APM Southern Command. Brig. AQ Southern Command. Lt. Gen. C in C Southern Command.
