Citation: Tunisia. Citation for MC: During the action on BANANA RIDGE on 2 Mar 43 it was decided to withdraw our troops in order to allow the Arty to shell the ridge. Lieut. M Oldfield with his Pl were ordered to cover the withdrawal of the rest of the Coy. Whilst carrying out this duty Pte Wade was wounded and Lieut M Oldfield immediately went forward and began to carry him back when a German sniper shot him through the neck with a tracer bullet. Despite this he continued to move the wounded man and got him safely back to cover. He then, despite his wound, commanded his Pl with great coolness and materially helped in extricating the Coy. he then evacuated his own Pl without further loss, and, with his Coy Comd, was last to leave the ridge.Lieut Col Comd 2/4 KOYLI.
