R L Williams, MFP states: At Etaples on 25th December 1916 at 7pm I paraded and inspected a squad of the MFP at the square at Etaples and detailed them for duty. No. 21173 Pte. J Savage was one of the squad. He was sober and correct and I detailed him for patrol duty in the Rue de Rosamel from 7pm to 9pm that night. He was therefore on duty at 8pm when he was injured by the car. (Pte J Savage was attached to MFP from the Northumberland Fusiliers). Robert Lemon Williams. |
