Decoration Record:
Decoration: Order of the British Empire (London Gazette: 41508 Page: 5953 Sept. 30, 1958)
Citation: Cyprus, 1/1/1958 - 30/6/1958. 158486 Lt/Col. Norman Edwin Huberm RMP, APM, HQ Cyprus District.Citation. 8/6/1956 to 1/7/1958. Lieutenant Colonel Huber has been the Assistant Provost Marshal for CYPRUS District from 8 Jun 56 to date. For the Emergency in CYPRUS the Corps of Royal Military Police has been built up to 400. Because of the need to supplement and underpin the local Police Force, the Royal Military Police have not only carried out their normal functions but have acted in close support of the Civil Police, particularly in the operational field. Colonel HUBER has advised on and had under his personal command 780 War Department Auxiliary Police of Greek and Turkish Cypriots. These have shown complete loyalty and carried out their heavy guarding duties with thoroughness and zeal. The efficiency and steadfastness of these Military Auxiliary Police stems from the exceptional leadership and personal example which HUBER has always given to them under conditions of stress and danger. In the face of a high casualty rate he has with his firmness, understanding and complete disregard for his own safety and interests, maintained the morale of his units at a particular high lever, this has also been reflected in units, both police and military, beyond his own immediate command. Further, his constant watchfulness, leadership and zeal has ha a tremendous effect on the discipline of the very large CYPRUS Garrison and this has helped in no small degree to maintain the high standard of discipline, turnout and morale achieved.Recommended by Maj/Gen D A Kendrew, CB, CBE, DSO, GOC Cyprus District.
