Citation: Cyprus, 1/7/1958 - 31/12/1958. Major Frank Robert Andrew Hill, (204425), RMP.Citation. Major HILL has commanded his unit for well over two years of the CYPRUS emergency, and has throughout this time been responsible for RMP Internal Security operations in the NICOSIA area. He has established a most efficient and cordial liaison with the Civil Police and by his personal example he has ensured that the same excellent relationship exists at all levels of his command. In collaboration with senior Security Force officers he has planned and taken part in a great variety of arduous and difficult operations in and around the Tow. His courage, imperturbability and practical common-sense has not only set his subordinates the finest possible example during riots and disorders, but has frequently had a calming effect on young and inexperienced NCO's when they were being subjected to extreme provocation. In addition to his operational work in NICOSIA, Major HILL commands a unit of almost double the normal size with detachments widely scattered throughout the Island. By his enthusiasm, leadership and hard work he has overcome all difficulties and maintained his company at the highest level of operational and administrative efficiency. The CYPRUS emergency has thrown upon this officer duties and responsibilities far greater than those which would be the normal lot of an officer of his rank, and the success and reputation of the Royal Military Police in CYPRUS is largely die to this personal effort and example. Recommended by: Brigadier F R St F Bunbury, Comd. 50 Independent Infantry Brigade, Central Area and Military Command Nicosia. Maj Gen Darling, GOC Cyprus. Lt Gen R H Bower, C in C MELF.
