| Decoration: | Member of the British Empire (London Gazette: 40787 Page: 3106 May 31, 1956) |
| Citation: | Queen's Birthday Honour. Citation for MBE, Cyprus, April 55 -February 1956: Ever since terrorism started last year until recently, Major HORE has been personally responsible for the military Police effort in NICOSIA when any trouble broke out as well as being DAPM in CYPRUS. Time and again he has been first in the field when trouble has started and used his handful of police to nip an ugly situation in the bud, shepherd servicemen out or away from the riot centre, inform the police and (later) the stand by infantry company. he has had a flair for anticipating trouble and by bold leadership has instilled it in his men; moreover for most of last year, before police radio cars and adequate troops were available, the bulk of reconnaissance regarding riots was undertaken by Major HORE personally or his men and on his information alone was action taken time and again. During the process he ran many risks of rough handling and often got it. he now controls some four times as many military police on the island as heretofore without and increase of status or staff and has risen to the occasion splendidly.Maj Fen A H G Ricketts, GOC Cyprus District.
