Citation: | Malaya, 1 January 1955 - 30 June 1955. OC Singapore SIB. Citation for MBE. Lieut Sharman is in command of a section of the Special Investigation Branch, RMP which investigates all the serious disciipliniary and criminal reports in Singapore and South Malaya. There are two other detachments of SIB in Far East Land Forces, these operate in Hong Kong and Malaya respectively and are commanded by a Captain in each case. Stastistics of work carried out by these detachments during the twelve months period ending 1 May 55 reveal the following facts, Singapore Detachment 380 cases investigated 378 arrests made, Malaya Detachment 274 cases investigated 276 arrests made, Hong Kong Detachment 312 cases investigated 271 arrests made. The DAPM SIB Far East Land Forces is often absent from Singapore on duty and during the period under review was in the UK on leave for a period of six weeks. During these absences of the DAPM Lieut Sharman efficiently and enthusiastically takes over the DAPM's duties as well as continuing with his own. He shows devotion to duty of a very high order, always putting duty before his personal interests, the extent of considering himself always on duty and continuing investigations when on leave. He will happily accept any task requied of him and will persue investigations ruthelessly, regardless of personal fatique or discomfort, showing considerable tact and intelligence, invariably producing clear and complete reports. Due to his keeness, tenacity and efficency, he has confronted many criminal activities in his area and has personally been responsible for recovering stolen Goverrment property, in one case in October past the property recovered amounted to £7,000.
