Citation: Didsbury Manchester, 9 Aug 1949 -7 July 1953. Section Corporal.Corporal GARRATT is a man of exemplary character and conduct. His devotion to his duty is quite remarkable. Since he joined my unit on 9th Aug 1949, he has never missed a Drill night or week-end exercise unless prevented by his employment, which is very seldom. Corporal GARRATT joined the T.A. in 1938, and served in M.E.F and B.N.A.F. In addition to his normal drill nights, he puts in very many hours work at the Drill Hall voluntarily and without being asked. Hi is a tower of strength to the PSI's since he will tackle and job, however heavy or arduous. The M.T. is always in an excellent condition, primarily due to the hours of hard work put in by Corporal GARRATT on maintenance. He carries out all these tasks, because he so obviously considers it his duty, He seeks no reward or limelight, but always remains quietly in the background. As a Military Policeman hi is like a rock, His size - he is 6' 3" and weight s nearly 18 stone = helps undoubtedly, but with all his strength he is gentle, and one of the most tactful policemen in the Company. He is a man on whom one can depend, even in the utmost adversity.Maj R K Mills OC 42 Div Pro Coy, Commander 42 Inf Div. Lt Gen C F Loewen C in C Western Command. National Archive WO 373/161.
