Notes: | MFP. Awarded the 1915 Star, Victory and War Medals. First served abroad (1) France, 22/9/1915 to 11/11/18. Also holder of the Coronation Medal 1902 Bronze, City of London Police (P C H J Smith and the Coronation Medal 1911, City of London Police (PC H J Smith). After the war he returned to the City of London Police. He was in the Military Foot Police Tug of War Team in Aldershot in 1915. He won a gold medal at the Antwerp Games in 1920 for the Tug of War. The following statement was found in other documents: 3rd Witness, No. P.1412 L/Cpl H. Stiff, M.F. Police Station (Calais):- About 8 a.m on 2nd Dec. 1917. I proceeded to the West Tidal Basin, and saw the body of a British soldier in the water, with assistance I got the body out of the water and took it to the Mortuary of 35 General Hospital, where it was identified as that of No. 60303 Gunner T. Turner, R.G.A. attached 69 AA Section who had been missing for about three weeks. Sdg H. Stiff L/Cpl, M.F.Police. Copy of Post Mortem report attached. (No. 60303 Gnr.
