| Citation: | Egypt. Temp Lt Col Irish Guards, DPM BTE Egypt. For action in riots in Ismailia 17 - 18 November 1951. Citation for OBE: This officer was the APM and it was therefore his duty to keep in touch with the Civil Police. On 17/18 November a very difficult sitiation built up in Ismalia. He heard of the trouble and a request to escort a doctor to a casualty. He immediately decided to escort the doctor personally and see what the trouble was for himself. He found the town in confusion with the Egyptian Police completely out of hand and firing in all directions. He made contact with the RAF Police and certain Egyptian Civil Authorities and between them organized a party with a lound speaker which brought firing under control. On the following day (18th November 1952) he was prominent in bringing the situation under control in a firm and common-sense manner. In a situation of great tension he was able to inspire Egyptian Police Officers to a sense of duty at a time when they were reluctant to do anything. He set a splendid example to all officers and men of the Corps of Royal Military Police.RMP Journal 3rd Quarter 1952. |
