Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in re-organising men and leading them forward under very heavy machine-gun and rifle fire, thus by his courage and personal example re-establishing the line. Later, finding an officer badly wounded, he carried him back to safety under heavy machine-gin fire. |

He went out with his company commander in broad daylight and captured an enemy post, bringing in two prisoners. He went out again with his company commander and a patrol and they brought back 11 prisoners and a machine gun, he himself capturing four prisoners. He showed the greatest coolness and initiative.(MC gazetted 16th Sept., 1918) |
