Extract from the East Kent Gazette 30 October 1915. SPLENDID WORK OF THE RAMC. Corporal William John Pearce, of the Military Mounted Police, son of Mr J W Pearce of Murston Road, Sittingbourne, writing from the Meerut, British General Hospital, Indian Expeditionary Force, "somewhere in France," gives a description of how the wounded and sick are dealt with, Corpl. Pearce himself has been in hospital with fever and the rapid and admirable manner in which our soldiers are treated at the front fills one with pride at the magnificent work that is being accomplished by the RAMC. The writer says he cannot speak too highly of the treatment he has received from the doctors, sister, and members of the RAMC staff. nothing is too much trouble for them, Corporal Pearce thinks that if this is known it might comfort the heart of some poor mother who has a son in hospital at the front. By the way (he adds) we get eggs here from the National Egg Collections. I had one for breakfast from a little girl aged nine years. |
