Extract from the Bexhill on Sea Observer, 2/8/1919. L/Cpl A E Manklow, No. 1 Traffic Control Company, Military Foot Police has gained the medal for devotion under shell-fire. He has been home to 40, Chandler Road, on a fortnight's leave from Boulogne. He had some marvellous escapes, but has not been wounded., seeming to bear a charmed life. Once a shell picked out one man of six where he was. On another occasion he and a comrade at some little distance apart were under such heavy fire that each thought the other must be killed. He joined up about two years ago last December. Repeated in Bexhill on Sea Observer 2 August 1919. |
