Frank Week Peek. Extract from the West Middlesex Gazette 23 January 1936. MAN OF MANY MEDALS. DEATH OF P.C. PEEK FOLLOWS TWO OPERATIONS. Many Ealing residents will regret to learn of the death of Mr. Frank Weeks Peek, aged 52, of 7, Dudley Gardens, Northfields, a constable of the Metropolitan Police Force attached to the Ealing Station and an old soldier with many decorations to his credit. He had been a member of the police force for 23 years, during which time he sometimes served as a plain clothes officer and on occasion, carried out the duties of assistant warrant officer at the Ealing Court. He fought throughout the Boer War as a member of the 5th Lancers and served in the European War in the Military Mounted Police, joining in 1915 and being demobilised at the end of 1918. He was mentioned in despatches for conspicuous bravery on the field. His decorations included Queen Victoria's South African Medal with Caple Colony, Transvaal, Orange Free State, Defence of Ladysmith, Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith bars, King Edwards's medal with 1901 and 1902 bars, the bronze Star of the Great War and General Service and victory Medals. and the Police medal. In the early part of the late war, Mr. Peek was attached to the 10th Royal Irish Regiment and served in Salonika, the Dardanelles, Serbia and Bulgaria. Mr. Peek, who was also a musician and often assisted in connection with the metropolitan Police Minstrels, underwent an operation in St. Thomas's Hospital on Jan. 6th, this being followed by another two days later. he failed to recover and passed away on Tuesday. The funeral will take place at Westminster Cemetery, Hanwell, on Wednesday next. |
