GALLANT BLACK LION MAN - OFFICIL RECOGNITION OF SERVICES.
Mr. Joseph Nixon, Carricktern, Blacklion, has recently received from the War Office the following certificate relating to the conduct and action of his son, Corporal John Nixon, who volunteered at the commencement of the war, and was attached to the Military Mounted Police in France for almost five years. When Mr. Nixon was demobilised he jointed the Royal Irish Constabulary and is at present stationed somewhere in Ulster.
"The War Office of 1914-1918 - Military Mounted Police, Corporal J. Nixon was mentioned in a despatch from Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig, dated the 16th March, 1919 for gallant and distinguished services in the field. I have it in command from the King to record his Majesty's high appreciation of the services rendered. - Signed Winston S. Churchill, Secretary of State for War.
