At that time I asked him if he could ride a bicycle alright, and he explained that he had been badly wounded in his "back", but that he would try. After the first days ride about 30Km he complained abut feeling the strain but that he would stick it. This was on the 16th November 1918. From then onwards till we arrived at Cologne he was under Cpl. Leybourne with the 88th Brigade, 29 Division and he made no complaint to the Corporal. Statement attached from Cpl Leybourne. He joined Company HQ at Cologne on the 9/10th December but he did not make any complaint to me or anyone else as far as I can ascertain. He must have had a very long ride on his last days journey as he had to come from Emeren to Cologne, a distance of about 40 KM. Two or three days after he arrived at Cologne he was transferred from my group to the Cologne Town Police under Major Maude and I know nothing about him registering sick. 27/5/1919 he was awarded a pension of 5/6d per week + 2/4d for 2 children, disability 20% for a hernia.
