When left for some considerable time in charge of his section at GRAMMICHELE, on his own initiative he organised food distribution to the civilian population, took over and arranged duties for the local police resources etc, The town was running so smoothly that when A.M.G.O.T officers arrived they had practically nothing to do. While at GRAMMICHELE his initiative and resourcefulness led to the capture of a German officer in hiding. His handling of his section and personal energy on other occasions have greatly assisted traffic control. An energetic reliable NCO he showed the same qualities during the African campaign.
