Corporal George Mockford, Military Mounted Police, one of the soldiers sons of Mr and Mrs Wm. Mockford, of Harley Lane, Heathfield is home on leave after three years' active service. Corporal Mockford was in the East Sussex Constabulary, stationed at Bexhill when he joined up over three years ago and after a moth's training at Aldershot he was went to France without draft leave. He was afterwards sent on to Salonika. This is the first leave since h joined up. Extract from the Sussex Agricultural Express 20 June 1919. HEATHFIELD SERGEANT DEMOBILSED. Sergeant George Mockford, Military Mounted Police, third son of Mr and Mrs Wm. Mockford, of Harley Lane, Heathfield, has just returned from Constantinople for demobilisation. He joined up over four years ago, and went overseas three weeks later. he has seen service in France, Salonika, Macedonia, Serbia, and Bulgaria, finishing in Constantinople. A brother, Sergeant W Mockford, RE, won the Military Medal in France. |
