| Citation: | Act of Courage - The General Officer Commanding wishes to express his appreciation of the following act of courage on the part on No. 2163 Lance Corporal Johnson, Military 'foot Police attached to the Town major's establishment ------- (France). About 2 pm on the 20th December 1916, at -------, two horses attached to a GS wagon took fright and bolted down the Rue de Haillcourt. (probably Barlin) Lance Corporal Johnson, who was on duty at the Crucifix, seeing the horses galloping up the road with no one in charge, at once ran towards them and at great personal risk, running alongside the horses, succeeded in catching hold of one of the reins and in bringing both horses to a standstill. "This NCO's prompt and plucky action probably averted a serious accident, as further along the road, in which the wagon was proceeding, there was a considerable number of farmers carts. A record of the above will be made in the Regimental Conduct Sheet of this NCO, in accordance with Paragraph 1918 (XIV.) Kings Regulations." |
