Camp Speed Limit.
Jas. Charles Archer was summoned for exceeding the speed limit on War Department Lands.
Colour Sergeant Cox, Military Foot Police, said defendant drove a motor car through a quarter mile control in Queen's Avenue in 39 seconds, equal to a speed of 23 miles, 135 yards per hour. When stopped he said, "What do you make it?" Witness told him and he drove off, the magistrates imposed a fine of 21s
There was a similar summons against Jas. Wm. George. Colour Sergeant Cox said defendant drove a motor car through the control in 42 seconds, a speed of 21 miles 754 yards per hour. When stopped and informed of the speed, he said, "I did not think I was." A fine of 21s was imposed.

A Very Tight Monopoly.
Albert Ayres, 33, was charged with loitering on War Department Land for the purpose of carrying on his business as a hawker.
Colour Sergeant Cox, Military Foot Police, said that at 10.10 am on the 22nd October, he saw the prisoner on the Queen's Parade, surrounded with soldiers, selling pears and chocolate. When he saw the witness he ran into the road, and subsequently said: "I've had a good innings, and I must pay for it."
The prisoner said he was medically unfit for the Army, and was anxious to secure a pass.
Major A W Gale, Provost Marshal said threat since the Army and Navy Canteen Board had taken over no new passes were being given, and the Military Police had orders to reduce those who had passes.
The Chairman: It is getting a very tight monopoly now.
Major Gale: They consider the hawkers are a pest in the camp.
A fine of 10s 6d was imposed.
William Ayres, a lad was charged with a similar offence at the same time and place, and was bound over in the sum of £23 to be of good behaviour and not to hawk in camp.
