Report in document to APM Dunkerque from Capt DAD RT dated 21/11/1917: With ref to your P18/306/1 of 20th inst. On the 16th inst, at about 6.30 pm I was being driven from my office in the docks towards the town, when opposite the IWT office I felt the car had hit something and immediately after I hears a man calling out. The car was stopped and I found L/Cpl Hyatt, MFP lying in the road. He stated that he had been knocked down by the car and was suffering from a slight cut on the forehead and that his leg hurt him. Capt Sargent applied a field dressing to his head and we placed him in the car and drove to the medical inspection room and sent for a doctor. The doctor said the injuries were not serious and that he would keep the patient in for the night.
The night was exceedingly dark and the oil side lamps gave practically no light beyond the bonnet of the car.
L/Cpl Hyatt stated that he saw the lamps but thought he was clear of the car, the car was travelling very slowly on account of the darkness.
Driver Digman is away from Dunkerque but his report will be sent immediately on his return. George Alffred Hyatt.
